Sustaining Cooperation Through Cost
The Bond category for continuing cooperative work when vulnerability, repair, honest speech, and shared commitment become expensive.
Bond
The Work
Cooperation is easiest to admire before it costs anything. Before the first breach. Before someone has to say the uncomfortable thing. Before trust has to be extended again after it was damaged. Before the group discovers that the work it claimed to value requires patience, exposure, and repeated return.
Sustaining Cooperation Through Cost is the Bond's category for that later moment. It asks whether you can remain in cooperative relation after the vulnerability has become felt, without pretending the cost is noble by itself and without using the cost as permission to leave too early.
The Bond fails toward Control when staying becomes fusion: the relationship, group, or shared work is preserved even when it has stopped answering to the Range. People keep cooperating because leaving would feel disloyal, because challenge would threaten belonging, or because the bond has become its own proof.
It fails toward Decay when cost becomes severance: the first serious strain, betrayal risk, ambiguity, or repair demand becomes evidence that cooperation was naive all along. The person keeps the diagnostic and abandons the relationship.
The Range is harder. Keep cooperating where the cooperation still serves the work. Keep boundaries where the cost has become too high or too one-sided. Keep honest signal moving even when the relationship would be more comfortable without it.
The Tools
This category does not yet have admitted v0.1 tool profiles. That is intentional. The category is architecturally needed because the Bond chapter names the cost of cooperation directly, but the tool set should not be invented for symmetry.
The next admission pass should look for practices that help people keep cooperative work alive through vulnerability, fatigue, breach, uneven contribution, and slow repair, while preserving the right to leave when the cooperative field no longer serves the Range.
