The Work
Cooperation needs honest signal. It needs people to say what they actually see when silence is easier, and it needs them to take responsibility for what they verify, repeat, amplify, and correct once information begins moving through the shared field.
The failure can happen before the signal enters. A weak premise goes unchallenged because the room is nodding. A relationship runs on a problem that has become too expensive to raise. It can also happen after the signal enters. A public claim feels useful or satisfying to share, so no one checks the source; an error travels publicly and is corrected privately. In both cases, other people are left coordinating around a false picture.
The Bond fails toward Control when truth standards become gatekeeping or candor becomes domination: correction without care, dissent as status display, verification demands used to silence inconvenient people. It fails toward Decay when people trade honest signal for comfort, speed, or belonging: flattery, private dissent, careless amplification, and errors left in circulation because correction would cost face. Keeping Shared Signal Honest asks what the cooperative field needs from you before you speak, while you speak, and after your words have begun shaping what others believe.
The Tools
Preference Falsification. Reading the gap between what people privately think and publicly say when social cost makes honesty dangerous.
Stewardship of the Epistemic Commons. Treating your information output as part of the shared reality cooperation depends on: verifying before sharing, correcting publicly, and acting as a filter rather than an amplifier.
