The published versions of JUDGMENT.md, the Meridian Codex's method for
applying the Meridian Compact to one question, newest first. Version 1.0,
published on 25 October 2026, is the first published version. It sets out
what a judgment is for and who may run it, the stance a judgment takes, how
it treats evidence, how it is made, the checks before it goes out, its form
at a quick, a full and a deep reading, how it stands to the Compact, and what
besides JUDGMENT.md and COMPACT.md shapes a judgment. Before release it was
tested on many questions and with several models. The caretakers released it
as a first version with its known limits stated in a notice, rather than
holding it back until it performed without fault, so that use on the
questions people bring, their own first, shows where it should improve. The
notice says that a judgment made with it can be wrong, that its full and deep
readings have been tested less than its quick reading, and that models
sometimes add details to a person's story that the person never gave.

JUDGMENT.md is meant to improve through use. Each change to it is made openly, with its reason on record, and this page lists every published version of the file, newest first.

## Version 1.0, 25 October 2026

The first published version. It sets out what a judgment is for and who may run it, the stance a judgment takes, and how it treats evidence. It describes how a judgment is made, first by understanding the case and then by applying the Codex's own tests to it, and the checks a judgment passes before it goes out. It gives the form a judgment takes at a quick, a full and a deep reading, how the file stands to the Compact, and what besides JUDGMENT.md and COMPACT.md shapes a judgment. Its header carries this notice:

> The first published version, in use by the Codex's caretakers and improved from that use. A judgment made with it can be wrong, and its full and deep readings have been tested less than its quick reading. Models sometimes add details to a person's story that the person never gave, so check what a judgment says about your own situation against what you told it.

Before its release, JUDGMENT.md was tested on many questions and with several models. The notice states the limits known from that testing. The caretakers released it with those limits stated, rather than holding it back until it performed without fault. Its next improvements come from use on the questions people actually bring, starting with the caretakers' own. The Amendment Log records its publication in the entry [The Compact Applied to One Question: JUDGMENT.md 1.0](/governance/amendment-log#2026-10-25-the-compact-applied-to-one-question-judgmentmd-10--what-changed).
